Day trips in Maryland

Maryland day trips

When the summer doldrums get you down, why not pack up, take the day off, and explore some of the amazing things Maryland has to offer. Here are our top three picks for day trips in Maryland.

Antietam National Battlefield

Maryland has some incredible and sobering Civil War history. Over 100,000 soldiers were involved in the battle at Antietam, with 23,000 dead by the time it was over. This historic battlefield looks peaceful and pastoral now, but 150 years is just a blink of the eye.

Smith Island

This quirky little island has a dialect and accent all its own, as well as some of the state’s best seafood and outdoor activities from canoeing to fishing. Don’t pass up the chance to have a slice of the unique Smith Island Cake while you are there!

Catoctin Mountain Park

This park encompasses mountain trails that were favored by Teddy S. Roosevelt, as well as a beautiful waterfall, and some amazing views of the nearby farmland and sugar maple farms. A gorgeous way to get out of the city for the day.
